Recently, I was featured on the NBC-affiliated station in Richmond, Virginia for their Black History Month Special. It was such an honor to be featured in this televised program hosted by Emmy-award-winning news anchor, Jasmine Turner. Thank you to Jasmine for fostering dialogue around African American genealogy during Black History Month.
The segment aired on 12 On Your Side and it highlighted the importance of tracing your family history and “finding your roots” through historical records and oral history which are vital tools in genealogical research.
I began working as a genealogist while I was an undergraduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University. Since then I have presented workshops and lectures while completing my M.A. in Public Anthropology from American University.
Special thanks to Cyane Crump and Danielle Worthing Porter of Historic Richmond for allowing us to film this story at the Historic Richmond HQ. I have been a member of Historic Richmond’s Junior Board for over six years and served as the Marketing & Public Relations Chair from 2021-2022.
Below you can watch the interview followed by a couple of behind-the-scene photos from the interview.
