36th National Afro-American Historical & Genealogical Society Conference

This weekend I attended my first National AAHGS-Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. Conference. The entire week was filled with incredible seminars from some of the leading experts in the field. Yesterday evening for the final banquet I introduced the keynote speaker, the television host of the Genealogy Roadshow on PBS, Ms. Kenyatta Berry.

I have admired Ms. Berry for over a year now and was starstruck when I met her. She’s even more amazing in person and was born and raised in my hometown of Detroit, Michigan.

A true renaissance woman— Ms. Berry graduated from Michigan State University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School. That’s right a lawyer and genealogist! As well as a phenomenal businesswoman.

It was truly an honor to have introduced one of my hometown heroes and besides the lights going out for nearly 20 seconds— I knew that when I looked into the crowd and saw Ms. Berry, I felt completely at ease.

Special thanks to the planning committee and the Greater Richmond chapter for this incredible opportunity. #AAHGS2015
